Lisa Neilsen : The innovative educator

Lisa Neilsen

Lisa Neilsen, which is a Innovative Educator. She found school boring and also irrelevant. That ticked her off so she became a public school who works to help and change that for others. She does this by finding and sharing innovative ways to prepare students for relevant and real-world success. Among other things, this means ensuring educators and students have a voice in conversations, issues and policies that affect them. 

She began her carrer in the late 90s as a libarian which was a perfect fit enabling her to create a vibrant oasis in harlem where students could find thier passions with support form the community. Since then she has served in various capacities including as a literacy coach. ed tech professional developement manager and technology innovation manager. Today, she serves as the director of digital engagement and professional learning.

Writing during a pandemic

As everbody know, now, the whole world has suffered with a serious pandemic, Covid-19 Virus. You would think a pandemic would be a wonderful time to write a blog? And i can tell you, yes, you are right ! At least for the first six months of the pandemic. At that time, I was writing alot. It was at this time that hardly anyone was seeing anyone outside thier home face-to-face. Most people weren't trvelling either. I was not living with friends or my family, so my interactions with people was strictly video call or maybe with my nieghbours. 

Stay connected during a pandamic 

Once October rolled around however, some of Lisa Nielsen friends and herself began to connecting outdoors in our small group of beach volleyball players. It felt good to reconnect for the first time in months, with those close to me. We went back to the beach and played volleyball outdorrs several times a week. We palyed in the mornings, afternoon and also evenings. 

When you have somethng taken away, you will appreciate and value it more. For that reason, my priorities right now are the face-to-face time I can spend outdoors on the beach with those close to me. Today, the eather is not conducive to playing and it's a weekend, so no work either. Since i had the chance, I jumped over here to my other passion, writing, to say I'm still here, but just with different priorities right now.
